2 kids killed in grenade blast in Basilan
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Two children were killed while another was seriously wounded when a grenade they were playing with exploded in Al Barka town in Basilan on Wednesday afternoon.
Basilan Vice Governor Al Rasheed Sakalahul told the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone that the children found the grenade near where government soldiers clashed with Abu Sayyaf bandits in the village of Magcawa on May 6.
Sakalahul said the children were playing with the grenade when it exploded.
A 40mm grenade is launched through an M79 rifle.
Killed were Saidi Samir, 9 and Sarhana Samir, 6. Wounded was Nasri Baddiri, 14.
