THE University of San Carlos, the hosts Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu and the visiting Ateneo de Iloilo started their respective campaigns on high notes yesterday as they bested their respective foes at the start of the CYBL VisMin Goodwill Games 2013 at the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Gym in Canduman, Mandaue City.
USC beat the University of the Visayas (UV), 51-47 in the Small Basketeers Philippines (SBP) division while its Passerelle counterparts accomplished the same feat by routing the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR), 104-47.
SHS-Ateneo de Cebu also followed suit as they scored two wins with its SBP team trouncing the NOODA Warriors of Bacolod, 58-38 and its Passerelle squad beating the Cebu Eastern College, 52-40.
Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI) meanwhile shook off the travel bug by defeating St. Benedict’s Child Learning Center, 52-31 in the SBP division while its Passerelle team topped St. John’s Institute (SJI) of Bacolod, 44-33, around four hours after they arrived by boat from Iloilo.
In other SBP games, SJI of Bacolod nipped CEC, 42-40, while Don Bosco stopped USJR, 34-19. In the Passerelle division, Don Bosco-A trounced Don Bosco-B, 49-28.
The third edition of the CYBL VisMin Goodwill Games is an annual summer tournament featuring the top SBP and Passerelle teams from the Visayas and Mindanao. The visiting teams include SJI and the NOODA Warriors from Bacolod and Ateneo de Iloilo.
