MANILA, Philippines -A 42-year-old man is facing a perjury charge in the city prosecutor’s office after he allegedly concocted a story of having been a victim of a car theft in Quezon City.
Nelson Domingo, of Caloocan City, admitted to allegedly falsifying a police report to explain his missing Kia Rio (TTO-558), which was rented last month but has not been returned to him.
In his report to Quezon City Police District director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano, anti-car theft division head Chief Inspector Roderick Tonga said that Domingo will be charged with perjury after he allegedly “knowingly deceived police officers for his apparent gain.”
Tonga said that Domingo initially reported to the QCPD Fairview station and the QCPD-Ancar unit that his car was forcibly taken from him at gunpoint at around 9:30 p.m. of May 27 near a car wash at Fairview Extension in Barangay (village) Greater Lagro.
But, the anti-car theft unit head said, there were some inconsistencies in Domingo’s sworn statement that he could not explain, particularly on how the incident happened. This prompted QCPD-ANCAR investigators to advise Domingo to tell the truth so his stolen car can be recovered.
According to Tonga the complainant “broke down and executed another statement,” where he said that the initial report he filed with the QCPD Fairview station was untrue. Domingo, the ANCAR chief pointed out, also said that his car had been rented on April 3 and has not been returned since.
