M Lhuillier Philippines planted 1,000 mangrove propagules of three different species on Isla Nabuswang, barangay Canmoros, Binalbagan town, Negros Occidental.
Company employees headed by regional manager Eric Garces spearheaded the event, in coordination with the Nabuswang Mangrove Association last May 3.
A representative from the municipality of Binalbagan briefed the participants about the importance of mangroves, its importance to the eco-system and marine life and the proper way of planting it.
After the orientation, the team turned over six trash bins to the association for their waste disposal program.
M Lhuillier employees then started planting mangroves on the shorelines of Isla Nabuswang.
For the past several years, M Lhuillier Philippines, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) system called the Organizational Productivity Enhancement Committee or OPEC, has been participating in numerous environmental programs to help preserve, protect and nurture natural resources in the communities they serve.
Its other CSR projects include medical missions, scholarship and livelihood assistance.
