19 teams vie for coveted title in CYBL today
PREPARATIONS for the upcoming grassroots basketball tournaments this year hit fever pitch today with the unveiling of the biggest ever Cebu Youth Basketball League VisMin Goodwill Games at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu gym in Canduman, Mandaue City.
A total of 19 teams from Cebu, Bacolod, Iloilo and Cagayan de Oro have converged here for competitions in both the Small Basketeers of the Philippines and the Passerelle division.
11 teams are slated to duke it out in the SBP division. These are Ateneo de Iloilo, St. John’s Institute of Bacolod, Warriors Basketball Club of Bacolod, Xavier University/Ateneo de Cagayan, Cebu Eastern College, University of San Carlos, University of the Visayas, Don Bosco Technology Center, St. Benedict’s Child Learning Center, University of San Jose Recoletos and SHS-AdC. CEC is the aiming to make it back-to-back after winning the crown with a finals win over USC last year.
Eight teams will be battling in the Passerelle division with St. John’s Institute, Ateneo de Iloilo, CEC, USC, Don Bosco A, Don Bosco B, USJR and defending champions SHS-AdC crowding the field. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
