Illegal drugs deal linked to woman’s death in Taguig

Police suspect that a bungled illegal drug deal could be behind the murder of a 28-year-old woman who was shot near her home in Taguig City before dawn on Tuesday.

Cindy P. Jama, a resident of Block 90, Lot 7, in Barangay (village) Upper Bicutan, died of gunshot wounds to her head and leg inflicted by a still unidentified assailant at the Fabsai covered court. Taguig police chief Senior Supt. Arthur Felix Asis said Jama was hanging out at the court around 2:30 to 3 a.m. when she was gunned down by the suspect.

So far, no witness has come forward to say if Jama or the gunman had companions during the incident, or how the shooting came about. Asis, however, surmised Jama could have been killed in an ambush.

Investigators are already following a lead on the motive of the crime based on interviews with the victim’s neighbors. “According to the neighbors, the victim was involved in the illegal drugs trade. We were told that she may have been killed because there was a doublecross during the negotiations,” Asis told the Inquirer in a phone interview.

Asis said their sources have revealed the identity of the suspected gunman, but declined to name him pending an investigation.—Jaymee T. Gamil
