MANILA, Philippines—The National Capital Region Police Office said Monday that it will deploy 10,000 police officers as part of its security preparations for the opening of classes next week.

Aside from providing security to students, Police Director Leonardo Espina, NCRPO chief, said the officers will also provide assistance to the Department of Trade and Industry on over pricing of school supplies and other commodities, and will also assist the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority in regulating traffic.

Police Assistance Desks will also be put up in all private and public schools, colleges and universities all over the metropolis to provide immediate security assistance to all students, and to protect them against criminals.

“All police personnel assigned in PADs should coordinate with the Department of Education, school authorities and local government officials,” Espina said.

He also ordered the conduct of simultaneous and aggressive operations against motorcycle-riding robbers, guns for hire, private armed groups and wanted persons.

“We will launch all out operations to arrest these criminals and put them to jail.  We will recognize and award anybody who can help us neutralize and score over these riding-in-tandem criminals. Let the police presence be seen and felt by the public,” Espina said.
