2 suspected robbers killed in shootout with QC police

MANILA, Philippines — Two men, who allegedly stole a motorcycle then robbed a woman, were killed in a shootout with policemen early on Sunday in Quezon City.

Recovered from the slain men were two .45 pistols, a mobile phone belonging to their alleged victim Mary Grace Beltran, and the motorcycle allegedly stolen from 24-year-old Ryan Abayan. Both Beltran and Abayan are residents of Barangay (village) Doña Imelda.

Police Officer 3 Erickson Isidro, of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU), said that both slain men had names tattooed on their bodies. While one had “Romano Santos” tattooed on his right arm, his companion had the names “Imelda” and “Jacklyn” on his chest and “Lando” on his stomach.

Isidro said that the shootout happened at around 2 a.m. Sunday, along Sto. Tomas Street near Cordillera Street in Barangay Don Manuel.

According to Isidro, operatives of the QCPD Galas station chanced upon the suspects while conducting follow-up operations for the recovery of the motorcycle, which was stolen at the corner of Palanza and Santol Streets in Barangay Dona Imelda, as well as the arrest of the robbers who took Beltran’s mobile phone at gunpoint along Kapiligan Street of the same barangay.

The case investigator said that the Galas policemen on patrol unit QC-40 spotted the two men getting off a motorcycle along Sto. Tomas Street and were about to accost the duo when they were shot at. This prompted the policemen to fire back, which resulted in the suspects’ death.
