Search for best hometown story launched

GOT A story about your hometown? Share it through video.

The Department of Education (DepEd) and Smart Communications are conducting a search for the best school-produced hometown video to help cultivate pride of place among students and teachers.

The “Doon Po Sa Amin” competition will award the best teacher-student video blog that “features a community’s culture and character” through the use of information and communication technology (ICT). Deadline for registration is  Aug. 30.

Winners will be announced in February.  The best video blog will receive P30,000. Category winners will each get P10,000.

Smart will give P5,000 to each special awardee, including best site design and layout, best in team collaboration, best in ICT integration, and best in community involvement.

Education Secretary Armin Luistro said the contest aimed to promote the use of technology in education and local content in teaching and learning.

“This is a very exciting contest as it brings out the best in teachers and students in producing a video blog site that touches on the many aspects of community life. The topic categories include environment and disaster preparedness, arts and culture, history and society, as well as travel and cuisine,” Luistro said in a statement.

He said the contest would  help develop skills in research and writing, creativity, teamwork and use of ICT in telling unique local stories.

The competition is open to teachers and students from public and private high schools across the country.

Winning video blogs would be featured in an exhibit, DepEd said.
