2 shot dead for peeing near car

MANILA, Philippines — Two men were killed late Saturday night in Manila after one of them peed near a car, irking its owner.

Manuel Evangelista of Leyte St., Sampaloc, died on the spot, while Manuel Gorospe, 36, of the district’s Kundiman St., died while being treated at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Evangelista was relieving himself near a black Toyota Fortuner parked on Paquita St. in Sampaloc at around 11:30 p.m., when the car’s owner spotted him and told him off.

A heated argument broke out, which led the enraged man to draw out a gun and shoot Evangelista repeatedly, case investigator Police Officer 2 Jose Gumilan of the Manila Police District Homicide Section said.

Gorospe, who was with Evangelista and their other friends, was also shot repeatedly after he confronted the man believed to own the car.

The shooter, who was only visiting the area with around 20 of his friends to play basketball, remained unidentified as of Sunday.

Ten bullet shells, believed to have come from a 9-mm. pistol, were recovered from the crime scene.

Evangelista and Gorospe’s friends told police the gunman made a hasty escape using the car with plate number PDU 942. A pursuit operation is underway.

Insp. Armando Macaraeg, the MPD Homicide chief, expressed certainty the suspect would be identified soon based from his plate number.
