THE monthly tournament of the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) rolls off today at the Deep Blue Chess Club in SM City Cebu.
The competition will start at 1 p.m. with CEPCA’s best wood pushers expected to see action.
The tournament will adopt a five-round Swiss system format with handicapping time control. The participants will be divided into two categories A and B according to their skills. Class A players will be given 15 minutes to finish play while Class B competitors have 20 minutes to conclude their matches.
The winning wood pusher will earn the monthly title which will also serve as his ticket to the grand finals in December where the Player of the Year will be determined.
January’s player of the month is lawyer Jong Melendez, National Master (NM) Arnold Cadiz for February, Percival Fiel for March and Maggi Dionson for April.
