Familiar names make waves in Palawan net

THE BIG WINNERS of last week’s leg in the Palawan Pawnshop age-group tennis circuit continued their torrid pace as Sebastian Mosqueda and Alexie Santos advanced to the semifinals in their respective divisions and remained on course for another double win at the Mactan Island Lawn and Airbase Tennis Courts in Mactan yesterday.

Mosqueda won the 16-under and 18-under divisions last week in the tournament that was held at the Consolacion Tennis Court.

He emerged victorious over Charles Kinaadman, 6-2, 6-1, to reach the 18-under semis against RJ Singson, who scored a walkover win over Jan Godfrey Seno.

Second-seed Julian Dayrit toppled Allen Manlangit, 6-1, 6-3, while Carl Cathedral held off Luke Flores, 7-6(5), 6-2, to arrange a clash for the other finals berth.

Mosqueda, a native of Cagayan de Oro, also breezed the quarters of the 16-under class with a walkover win over Jefferson Catalan. He will next face Manlangit, who subdued Jabs Barcenas, 6-0, 6-3. Others who advanced were Flores, Kinaadman, Singson, Dayrit, Seno and Kurt Mosqueda.

Santos, the Palawan bet who won the girls 14 and 16-under crowns last week, got past Bliss Bayking, 6-0, 6-1, to seal a semis duel with Shyne Villareal, who outlasted Anjelica Mosqueda, 7-5, 6-4, in the 14-and-U category. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
