Talisay Razkals and Phoenix FC advanced to the finals of the Boys U13 division of the Cebu Amateur Football Club’s (CAFC) 13th Cebu Inter-Club Football Cup after logging wins yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.
Powerhouse Talisay Razkals advanced to the championship battle after blanking BRO Nationals, 3-0. Phoenix FC earned the right to face the Razkals after beating the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS–AdC), 2-0.
In the Men’s Open division over at the Cebu City Sports Center, Group A top contender Cebu Queen City United (CQCU) absorbed its first loss after bowing to San Roque Rehab (SRR), 1-2, in its last elimination match.
CQCU found the back of the net first courtesy of Seigfed Apurado. SRR’s Ryan Bordalba scored the equalizer to level the match at halftime. Albert Tejos capped SRR’s upset of the CQCU with his goal.
CQCU still holds the top spot with 12 points off four wins and one loss.
SRR eliminated ERCO FC from the tournament as it climbed to second spot with its fourth straight win.
Should SRR win its final elimination match today against Danao FC, it will take over the top spot in Group A and will be the only team to have won all of its elimination games.
Hiroshi FC is already assured of ruling Group B while University of Cebu (UC)/Nigeria is at second spot after finishing with 12 points coming from four wins and one loss.
UC/Nigeria ended the bid of CAFC with a 3-2 victory yesterday.
With this development, the semifinalists in the Men’s Open are now complete composed of Hiroshi, UC/Nigeria, CQCU and SRR.
However, it still cannot be determined who will go up against whom with SRR still to play its last elimination game.
Don Bosco United (DBU) FC, meanwhile, ended its campaign with a 13-0 devastation of Mactan Camellanz.
DBU FC could have scored more if official Michael Colibra did not stop the match. Colibra ended the match after he noticed that Mactan Camellanz was playing without a coach. The tournament had a no coach, no play policy.
Another team which barged into the win column was Hijos del Pueblo, who pulled past Danao FC, 4-3.
In the 40-Above, Hiroshi annihilated Kevlar-QCU-B, 11-0. Hiroshi could also have added to its goals but the referee stopped the match with still 25 minutes left in the second half. This after Kevlar/QCU-B had only seven players left in the pitch with four of its players, including the goalkeeper, suffering injuries.
