Soldier killed, several others wounded in Ilocos Norte road mishap

MANILA, Philippines—A soldier was killed and several others wounded when a military truck and a passenger bus collided in Ilocos Norte before dawn Thursday, police said.

Senior Superintendent Gerardo Ratuita, Ilocos Norte police director, said the incident happened at Barangay (village) 9, Susugae in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte around 3 a.m.

He said the military truck, travelling towards south, was swerving, causing it to hit the approaching Florida bus on the opposite lane.
Bus driver William Antonio tried to avoid the truck, but it hit a house owned by one Justina Visco.

As a result, Corporal Anastacio Hernandez, 37, was killed and several other passengers of the military truck were injured. The total number of injured passengers was not immediately available.

On the other hand, Antonio and his passengers were safe.
