Bomb found in Batangas justice hall

BATANGAS CITY, Philippines — An improvised explosive rifle grenade was discovered in the Justice Hall of Lipa City, Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Superintendent Jacinto Malinao, Lipa City police chief, said that at 12:01 p.m., police received a call informing there was a bomb inside the toilet of the justice hall in Barangay (village) Marawoy.

Initial investigation showed that at 11:20 a.m., Abraham de Torres, a court process server, and Ariel Villanueva, a maintenance worker in the court, were about to use the toilet when they found a box inside a cubicle.

A team from the Explosive Ordnance Division, Fernando Airbase said it was an improvised rifle grenade. The team blasted it at a vacant lot near the justice hall.

Police have yet to identify suspects in the planting of the bomb.
