Green Lancers gain share of lead

THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers trounced the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U), 71-63, yesterday in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc (CESAFI) seniors basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum.

The win pushed the Lancers to a 2-0 (win-loss) record to tie arch rival University of Cebu (UC) at the top of the standings.

Adrian Lao led the Lancers with 17 points and more importantly canned in important baskets down the stretch that helped complete the victory.

In the juniors division, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles also improved to 2-0 after routing CIT-U Wildkittens, 89-62.

Defending champions Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons, on the other hand, clinched their first win of the season with a 95-65 demolition of the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors.

Allan Dimco led the wildcats with 17 points on a losing cause.

The Lancers had a sluggish start as the smaller Wildcats waxed hot in the first quarter treys from Dimco and Fred Batiquin. CIT-U even held a 19-14 lead at the end of the first. They extended the lead to seven points, 21-14, at the start of the second quarter but the Green Lancers’ Rene Saycon and Harold Cincoflores started UV’s comeback.
