Businessman faces raps for illegal possession of firearms, smuggling

MANILA, Philippines–The Department of Justice (DoJ) has approved the filing of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against a businessman.

In a four-page resolution approved by Prosecutor General Claro Arellano, the DoJ found sufficient evidence against Lynard Allan Bigcas for violation of Section 1 of Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1866 as amended by Republic Act (RA) No. 8294 (Illegal possession, manufacture, dealing in, acquisition or disposition of firearms, ammunitions or exposives).

The case stemmed from the complaint filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Northern Mindanao after the seizure of one piece of magazine for M16 rifle and 16 pieces of live ammunitions for the M16 rifle, among others, from Bigcas’ two residences in Barangay (village)Talakag, Bukidnon and Barangay Kauswagan, Cagayan de Oro City.

He is also facing a separate case for smuggling.

The illegal possession of firearms against Bigcas was filed before the regional trial court of Cagayan de Oro City.
