2 more books for USC Press publications
THE latest addition to the University of San Carlos Press publications, Canto Voice, a collection of short satiric verses by the late Cornelio F. Faigao, and Linda Faigao-Hall’s The Female Heart and Other Plays published in the United States by NoPassport Press, will be launched on June 8 at 3-6 p.m. at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Canto Voice ran as a verse column in the Pioneer Press in the 1950s and bears witness to the forces of experience that penetrate the poetic spirit so deeply. It represents the poet’s translation of his sociopolitical milieu – his comment on the times.
The Female Heart and Other Plays, edited by Randy Gener with a preface by scholar Luis Francia and afterword by Ian Morgan, gathers for the first time a range of work by pioneering Filipino-American playwright Linda Faigao-Hall. The plays in this volume are funny, sexy, tragic and resonant as they deal with identity, longing and transculturation.
Linda Faigao-Hall will be there to talk to the members about the book. A dramatic reading will be performed by Dondi Joseph, Johanna Fajardo-Salazar, Dr. Randolph Libres, Michelle Varron and Gerard Ma followed by harana music on the guitar by former Cebu Guitar Society president Joel Oporto.
Poetry readers include Cebu Daily News publisher and acting editor-in-chief Eileen Mangubat, Dr. Mila Espina, Alice Kintanar-Queblatin and Joeberth Ocao.
