JERSON  Mancio of the ALA gym remained as the Philippine light flyweight champion as he won via a fifth-round technical knockout against Robel Villegas of the Elorde Stable in a fight held Saturday night at the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City.

ALA Gym trainer Edito Villamor relayed the result to this writer and stated that Villegas went down in rounds two and five before turning his back when Mancio was set to follow up on his attack.

The 25-year-old Mancio improved to 17W-3L-3D with 8 knockouts while Villegas, who was riding on a four-fight winning streak, dropped to 9-7-0 with 3 KOs.  Mancio won the light flyweight title in 2011 by unanimous decision over Jason Canoy in San Remigio, Cebu.  /correspondent rene bonsubre jr
