Jose Nepomuceno, known as the “father of the Philippine movies,” was born in Quiapo, Manila, on May 15, 1893. The movie producer and director started out as a photographer and founded Malayan Movies in 1917. His work included “Dalagang Bukid,” the first Filipino-produced feature film and “Tatlong Hambog,” the first local movie to feature a kissing scene. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
