Samsam to tap grandpa Eddiegul as advisor
REP. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas of Cebu’s 1st district said there was a “blessing in disguise” in the failed bid of his grandfather to be elected Talisay city mayor.
“He can mentor me more now as a neophyte congressman,” he told reporters after his proclamation at the Capitol yesterday.
“Pa, the chief of staff position is open in Manila. Pwede ba ka malibre gyud? (Are you available?) He’s okay with it… but he will be more as an adviser,” he added.
The elder Gullas stood and had his hand raised with Samsam for the symbolic victory pose with the Provincial Board of Canvassers at the Capitol Social Hall.
The congressman lost to independent candidate Johnny delos Reyes by 730 votes and quickly conceded after the results were known.
Samsam admitted that the family was hurt by the outcome.
” It’s all about seeing what I can do for the district for now. We have a common vision and that is to serve the people,” he said.
Samsam said he already has his five-point agenda t based on his consultations and visits to Talisay City’s 130 barangays.
These include education, good water supply, electrification of sitios, youth and sports development and infrastructure projects.
Samsam was also tasked by his grandfather to continue his “legacy” project – multi-billion peso Carcar-Naga highway. Correspondent Carmel Loise Matus
