Team Rama bet concedes, Biaño to protest defeat
TEAM Rama council candidate Jerry Guardo conceded defeat to re-electionist Councilor Noel Wenceslao of the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK) in the race for the last 8th slot in Cebu City’s north district.
“The people in the north district have spoken and I respect their decision,” he told reporters yesterday. Guardo, a barangay captain of Sambag II said he may run again in 2016.
His wife will run for his post in this year’s barangay elections. Guardo said he may have lost because he didn’t campaign in the moutnain barangays.
In Mandaue City, losing mayoral candidate Victor Biaño said he lans to file a recount petition with the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
He said the automated vote results were nearly uniform that it was “statistically impossible.”
In the 205 clustered precincts in Mandaue City, the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines showed that he received 170 to 179 votes while incumbent Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes gained more than 500 votes.
The petition for recount will be filed before May 24 or 10 days after the proclamation of Cortes in his last term as Mandaue City mayor. Cortes gained 98,972 while his opponent Biaño got 27,992. Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos and Correspondent Jose Santino Bunachita
