A policeman was shot dead in his own Quezon City neighborhood by motorcycle-riding assailants who also wounded two bystanders Thursday night.
Police Officer 2 Jayson Aragon, a resident of Kaunlaran Street in Barangay (village) Commonwealth, died of multiple gunshot wounds upon reaching Fairview General Hospital.
PO2 Jogene Hernandez of the Quezon City Police District said the slain law enforcer was assigned to the Police Regional Office 4-A based in Calamba, Laguna province.
According to Hernandez, Aragon figured in a shootout with a suspected hired killer in his neighborhood a few years earlier. The alleged hitman was later killed by responding members of QCPD’s Batasan Hills station.
The victim’s family members also told investigators that they heard of strangers in the village asking about Aragon’s whereabouts before Thursday’s attack.
Aragon was on his way home on his motorcycle around 10:05 p.m. when he briefly stopped at a store on Kamagong Street. The gunmen then approached him and one of them opened fire.
Fleeing on their bike, the assailants encountered Raymart Cadsawan, 22, and shot him as well when he tried to block their path. Cadsawan was hit twice in the abdomen.
Another bystander, Rolando Herado, 29, was hit in the left side of his body by a stray bullet. Julie M. Aurelio
