Clean-up in Cebu, Mandaue cities on

AFTER last Monday’s midterm elections, what will happen to all the campaign materials strewn and posted all over Cebu?
For Cebu City, the Department of Public Services (DPS) will start “Operation Kuskus” starting 5 p.m today.
In Mandaue City, reelected Mayor Jonas Cortes asked all candidates, including those who lost their bids, to join hands in cleaning the city of campaign materials.
DPS head Dionisio Gualiza said they will field over 200 street sweepers to start taking down campaign posters all over the city.
“This is also for us to avoid problems in drainage clogging due to plastic campaign materials,” Gualiza said.
Gualiza asked government officials to start the cleanup especially in areas like barangay halls and sports complexes.
He also urged the candidates – both winners and losers – to pitch in.
Last Wednesday, Cebu City north district councilor-elect Alvin Dizon started taking down his own campaign materials and encouraged other candidates to follow suit.
Mayor Cortes said he will lead the campaign materials clean-up in Mandaue City’s 27 barangays on Saturday.
Shared responsibility
Cortes is urging all Mandauehanons, including their political opponents to help in the clean-up.
Boy scouts and girl scouts will also help in the clean up.
“It’s a shared responsibility of all Mandauehanons,” said Cortes.
