Carta said the intense heat and thick smoke inside the building have prevented firemen from entering the structure.

“It’s very risky to go inside even [when we use our] breathing gear,” he added.

According to him, firefighters continue to pump water into the building to put out the blaze. They have also opened a portion of the establishment to prevent the heat inside from intensifying.

In September, a fire also struck the nearby Tutuban Mall. It took two days for firemen to put it out.—With a report from Tessa Distor
