MANILA – A sales agent was jailed for two days and was finally charged with theft in a Quezon City court on Wednesday for allegedly keeping a wallet supposedly containing P27,000 that he is alleged to have picked up after a TV network executive producer dropped it while  shopping for appliances at a supermarket in Cubao.

Ranil Caminade, 34, of Sta. Lucia, Pasig City, was charged before Quezon City regional trial court branch 77 Judge Germano Francisco Legaspi for the alleged omission and immediately posted bail of P20,000 for his provisional liberty after two days at the holding cell of the Quezon City Police station in Cubao.

The theft charge stemmed from the complaint of Merilea Cuartina-Llamoso, an executive producer of GMA7, of Barangay (village) Talipapa in Novaliches.

In her sworn statement, Llamoso claimed she was at the furniture area of a supermarket at the Araneta Center in Cubao between 8 and 9 p.m. on May 13 shopping for a refrigerator when she accidentally dropped her leather wallet containing P27,000.

She had already made her purchase and was at the parking area of the supermarket when she realized she had lost her wallet. Llamoso said that she immediately returned to the furniture area and asked employees if they had found the wallet.

Merchandiser Schenley Ventura gave the description of a man with blond hair who had allegedly picked up a wallet from the floor and pocketed it. Llamoso and the supermarket’s security personnel managed to track down the man with blond hair, later identified as Caminade, at the grocery.

Based on Ventura’s identification of him, Caminade was frisked at the security office but yielded no wallet and no P27,000. When asked by the security men if he had taken Llamoso’s wallet, he denied the accusation, prompting the network employee to have him arrested and booked by QCPD Cubao station policemen on a theft charge.

Legaspi set on May 21 Caminade’s arraignment, where he is expected to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. With Bernadette Nicolas
