MANILA, Philippines—A partial proclamation of winning senatorial candidates could be made early evening Thursday, Commission on Elections Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said.
Five to six leading candidates will be proclaimed ahead if Comelec decides to junk the motion to postpone the proclamation filed by the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), said Brillantes.
Comelec en banc, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers, was reviewing the motion and would come up with a ruling at around 1 p.m. Thursday, he said.
“If we grant the motion, there will be no proclamation until such time we have resolved all the issues,” Brillantes said.
The UNA filed Wednesday a motion to defer Comelec’s proclamation of winning candidates, citing reports of “manipulated data” and “slow transmission of vote returns.”
If the proclamation pushes through, the rest of the winners of the senatorial race could be proclaimed by Friday, he said. With a report from Philip C. Tubeza, Philippine Daily Inquirer
