After garnering nearly 80,000 votes more than his closest rival, Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes will review the performance of 36 department heads during his first 100 days in office.
“Gamay nalang akong panahon kay last term na koni paningkamotan nako nga ma -fast track ni (I only have a little time left, it’s my last term so I will fast-track this),” the mayor said.
Cortes said he will fill vacant positions with people who can multi-task well rather than hire more people.
He will target the completion of 115 classrooms after finishing 75 through partnerships with the private sector.
Cortes received 98,972 while his opponent Victor Biano got 27,992.
His Liberal Party slate headed by Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede were proclaimed winners last Tuesday afternoon.
Emmarie Ouano-Dizon got the highest number of votes among councilors with 89,660 votes.
Bercede received 102,674 votes while Benjamin Luage garnered 12,506 votes.
Cortes said he will prioritize construction of a government center in the 8,000 square meter Mandaue old public market near the National Shrine of St. Joseph, the heritage plaza and Presidencia building which houses Mandaue City Hall.Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
