MANILA, Philippines—The wee hours of Wednesday ushered in a second term for Mayor Laarni “Lani” Cayetano.
At 2 a.m, the Taguig Board of Canvassers (BOC) proclaimed winners Cayetano and her running mate, incumbent Lower Bicutan barangay (village) chair Ricardo “Ading” Cruz, even with just 93 percent of the election results transmitted from the city’s 377 clustered precincts.
The “provisional proclamation” came with a reported wide margin of votes between the candidates.
Also declared reelected was first district Rep. Arnel Cerafica, while Fort Bonifacio barangay chair and TV director Lino Cayetano was elected second district representative.
A provisional proclamation was also done in Las Piñas city early Tuesday evening, with 95 percent percent of the election results already transmitted and with wide margins between the winning and losing candidates, election officer Mary Ann Gonzales told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Proclaimed winners were incumbent Mayor Vergel Aguilar, Vice Mayor Louie Bustamante and congressman Mark Villar, she said.
For both cities, a final total tally could not yet be released since results are revealed per barangay.
Both Taguig and Las Piñas will resume canvassing at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
