Baby girl killed in North Cotabato grenade blast

MANILA, Philippines–A six-month-old baby girl was killed and her mother was injured in a grenade explosion in North Cotabato before dawn Wednesday.

Colonel Dickson Hermoso said the explosive went off at the house of a certain Adelida Aguinaldo on Malvar Street in Kabacan, North Cotabato around 2 a.m.

Baby Chelzy Jaye Buisan Eliarda was killed and her mother Suhahina sustained injuries.

Hermoso said the roof of the house was damaged due to the explosion, adding that fragments believed to be from an MK2 fragmentation grenade was recovered from the scene.

The motive behind the attack is not yet known.

He said police have launched a follow up operation for the possible arrest of the grenade throwers.
