Bakud sweeps foes, delivers win for Davide

The Duranos allied with the Liberal Party swept Monday’s elections in Danao City.

The father and son tandem of Nito Durano and outgoing Rep. Ramon “Red” Durano VI were proclaimed as mayor and vice mayor at the Danao Session Hall yesterday.

Another son, former tourism secretary Joseph Ace Durano easily reclaimed Cebu’s 5th district congressional seat with more than 100,000 votes over his closest rival.

Their local party Barug Alang sa Kauswagan og Demokrasya (Barug) delivered the votes for LP allies in the province race.

Gubernatorial candidate Hilario “Junjun” Davide III  got 31,126 votes in the city agaisnt Pablo John Garcia’s 18,111.

LP-Bakud runningmate Agnes Almendras Magpale received 31,398 votes to easily top One Cebu’s Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV who got 17,392 votes in his hometown.

In the contest for Danao city mayor, Nito unseated his eldest brother Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr. with a margin of 18,000 votes, tallying 38,364 votes against the mayor’s 20,512 votes.

The younger Red Durano beat his uncle Jesus “Don” Durano with 34,686 votes against the elder Durano’s 23,670 votes.

“My uncle is an experienced politician but that didn’t stop me from running. Now we can see that Bakud delivers,” said Red.

In the City Council, Carmen “Ivy” Durano-Meca garnered 33,621 votes to lead all councilors in Danao City followed by relative Jerard Almendras with 31,623 votes and Cynthia Duterte with 29,871 votes.

Two precincts were unable to transmit their election results because of damaged compact flash (CF) cards but the results would not change the outcome of the voting.
