The Caloocan board of canvassers proclaimed Oscar Malapitan as the new city mayor Tuesday night, as he dominated a field of four candidates that included the son of the incumbent, Enrico Echiverri.

“The people have already decided and we won with a commanding lead,” Malapitan, who ran under the United Nationalist Alliance, told reporters after the proclamation at City Hall’s Bulwagang Katipunan.
