THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers sent the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars to their second straight loss with a 77-69 decision in the seniors division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) basketball tournament late Thursday night at the Cebu Coliseum.
Just like in their game against the University of Cebu (UC), the Jaguars once again got off to a fast start and led, 19-17, after the first period.
But the Lancers came storming right back behind the quarterbacking of reserve guard John Abad.
UV uncorked a 10-2 blast in the second period off baskets from Harold Cincoflores and RG Rios that gave them the lead for good.
Edrian Lao scored a game-high 24 points for UV while Abad added 18.
UV continues its campaign today when it faces off against the Cebu Institute of Technology-University. All eyes will be on the Yayoy Alcoseba-coached Southwestern University Cobras, who will be debuting today against the University of San Carlos Warriors. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
