Nava loses Guimaras gubernatorial race to Gumarin

ILOILO CITY, Philippines – Guimaras Governor Felipe Nava of the United Nationalist Alliance was defeated in the gubernatorial race by a party mate of his estranged brother Guimaras Representative JC Rahman Nava of the Liberal Party.

The Provincial Board of Canvassers proclaimed Samuel Gumarin as the governor-elect, winning with 40,859 votes against Governor Nava’s 36,068 votes.

Independent candidate Edgardo Junco got 710 votes.

The PBOC also proclaimed the reelection of Representative Nava who won by a landslide with 70,674 votes against independent candidates Tomas Junco Jr. (2,005 votes) and Edwin Lim (442 votes).

Gumarin’s running mate, Vicente de Asis, won as vice governor with 38,896 votes, defeating Avelino Gonzaga (UNA) who got 27,354 votes and independent candidate Franco Palacios who had 1,741 votes.

The Nava brothers have been at odds since shortly after the 2010 elections due to political and personal differences.
