/ 06:24 AM August 13, 2011

THE first of a series of three seminars titled “To invest or not to invest?” was held last July 9 at the Theodore Buttenbruch Hall of University of San Carlos on P. Del Rosario Street, Cebu City.

The event, organized by 15 fourth year finance students led by Rolando “Jun” Calomarde under Prof. Liberato Reyes and four MBA students headed by Ethel Bitoon, was attended by more than 200 finance and MBA students and their professors.

Resource speakers Imelda Estrada of Philam Asset Management Company and Edmund Suarnaba of RCBC Savings Bank tackled the importance of saving money to prepare for financial tragedy.

Estrada shared a formula of income minus investments equals expenses, which involves the setting aside of money for investments before spending all the income.

FEATURED STORIES

The investment vehicle to be chosen by a potential investor depends on his investment goal, which may either be a short-term such as to furnish a bare house within a year, or long-term such as the education of children. The investment vehicle could be in debt or equity instruments or both.

The second leg of the seminar is set on Aug. 20 at the same venue, while the third seminar will be held in September. /Ethel Bitoon and Rolando “Jun” Calomarde from USC Finance series 1 team
