MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Education (DepEd) said Monday the killing of a public school teacher in San Guillermo, Isabela, on the eve of the elections may have been brought about by a family feud and was not election-related.
May Aquinde, who was supposed to serve as chairperson of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) in a local precinct, was gunned down inside her house in Barangay (village) Guam in San Guillermo at around 7 p.m. on May 12.
The Election Task Force based at the DepEd’s central office in Pasig City quoted DepEd Regional Director for Cagayan Valley Lourdes Angoluan as saying that the killing “is not an election-related violent incident but a family feud.”
Education Undersecretary Alberto Muyot, task force chairman, nevertheless said they would wait for the official police report on the incident.—Dona Z. Pazzibugan
