Ynion concedes to Mabilog in Iloilo City’s mayoral race
ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Businessman Rommel Ynion has conceded defeat to reelectionist Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog in the mayoral race of Iloilo City.
Ynion of the United Nationalist Alliance congratulated Mabilog of the Liberal Party in a post on his Facebook page and in interviews over radio in Iloilo City, at around 11:20 p.m. Monday. He called on his supporters to respect the decision of the majority.
With 85 percent of the votes canvassed, Mabilog is leading Ynion by a wide margin with 112,735 votes compared with the 53,033 votes garnered by Ynion.
Mabilog’s running mate and reelectionist Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III is also leading with 85,112 votes compared with 74,461 votes of Ynion’s runningmate and city councilor Jeffrey Ganzon.
In the congressional race, Iloilo Rep. Jerry Trenas (LP) is ahead with 107,474, while his opponent Raul Gonzalez Jr. (UNA) has 55,655 votes.
