Tabal, Monjas wrest top plums in 1st leg of Argao-Moalboal Run

MARY Joy Tabal and Bonifacio Monjas conquered the first leg of the Argao-Moalboal High Endurance Run 2013, which started in Moalboal town, southwestern Cebu and ended in Argao’s Coal Mountain Resort yesterday.

Tabal, who won last week’s Dash for a Scholar fun run at the Parkmall in Mandaue City, clocked one hour, 52 minutes and 38 seconds to top the 18-kilometer women’s race.

Monjas took advantage of the absence of Kenyan runners, who competed in a separate category, to top the men’s 18k race in one hour, 28 minutes and three seconds.

Trailing Tabal was Keisha Mae Delechos, who crossed the finish line in two hours and 6.56 seconds. Finishing third was Mereeis Ramirez, who finished with a time of 2:06.59.

FEATURED STORIES

Finishing second in the men’s race was Michael Largo (1:33.34) while Riez Enriquez settled for third place with a time of 1:34.09.

Kenyan Douglas Mwiti (1:28.45) defeated compatriot James Mibei (1:29.59) in a separate 18k category while Abraham Missous finished at third with a time of 1:31.51.

Meanwhile, the Andrin sisters showcased their prowess in the short distance 10k race as Lovely Fe took the top spot with a time of 1:03.42 followed youngest sister Cherry with a time of 1:03.43.71. The eldest Andrin, Jean, wound up third with a time of 1:07.45.

In the 10k men’s race, Joel Delposo emerged on top with a time of 46:27.70 while Jodel Batarilan finished second with a time of 48:54.82. Robert Daang (49:22.03) settled for third.

The last leg of the event will be held today starting at the the Cebu Technological University (CTU) Argao Campus. The finish line will still be at the Argao Mountain Coal Resort.  /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
