Two-time champion Dordoi Bishkek of Kyrgyzstan took over the top spot in Group B after a 9-0 demolition of Bhutan’s Yeedzin in yesterday’s resumption of the 2013 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
In the second game, erstwhile leader Global FC of the Philippines dropped to the third place after losing to Khan Research Laboratories (KRL)of Pakistan, 0-2.
The win against the home team allowed Pakistan to take the second spot with four points.
For Global FC, the loss puts it in a must-win situation as it faces Dordoi Bishkek tomorrow for its final match.
Both Dordoi Bishkek and KRL have four points after winning their matches yesterday but Dordoi Bishkek took the top spot via its 9-point goal difference. KRL has 2 points.
Yeedzin continues to languish at the cellar as it has yet to win a match in this tournament.
Murzaev Mirlan scored five of Dordoi Bishkek’s nine goals against Yeedzin.
Rustamov Tursunali added two while the rest were contributed by Shamshiev Islam and Kaleutin Sergey.
Dordoi head coach Dvoryankov Sergey, speaking through an interpreter, was very happy with his team’s 9-0 win.
Yeedzin team manager Kota, on the other hand, said that although Dordoi is a very experienced team, he did not expect his team to loose by that big a margin. According to Kota, his players were not that focused and the game did not go as planned.
In the second game, KRL surprised Global FC with a goal just 12 minutes into the match. Mahmood Khan curved the ball from the corner, hit the far post before going in.
“To lose that game was unbelievable,” said Global FC head coach Brian Reid, who said his team was the better squad since it had better ball possession.
KRL head coach Tariq Lutfi agreed with Reid. But he said what made the difference was his team’s solid defense, which Global FC had trouble penetrating.
KRL’s second goal was scored by Adil in the 75th minute.
