MANILA, Philippines – “Majority” in the Senate are alleged “adulterers,” Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said on Friday.

Santiago made this statement  when she was defending Team PNoy senatorial bet Risa Hontiveros from anti-Reproductive Health (RH) groups, who have been allegedly waging a “politics of hatred” against her.

Santiago and Hontiveros are staunch advocates of the RH law.

“There are a lot of adulterers in the Senate and we’re not angry with them. They should stop it,” Santiago said in Filipino in her speech when she and Senator Pia Cayetano endorsed Hontiveros in Quezon City.

Pressed about it during a question and answer, Santiago clarified that what they have in the Senate was a “serial adulterer.”

Asked if she was referring to members of the chamber, the senator said, “The majority…The majority of the Senate.

Santiago also exposed how some senators spend more time in the cafeteria instead of attending their sessions.

“So we got the government that we deserve because the electorate does not pay careful attention to the process of voting. They think it’s entertainment, they think it’s a pastime,” Santiago added.
