Summer about to end, says Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines—Many parts of the country continue to experience hot weather but the good news is summer is actually about to end, the state weather bureau said.

Alvin Pura, weather forecaster of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, said the transition period to southwest monsoon, the prevailing weather system during the rainy season, will start by mid-May until end of May.
Scorching temperatures will start to decline starting mid-May, with an average of 34 degrees Celsius.

Rains will also begin after mid-May, Pura said.

Meanwhile, an intertropical convergence zone affecting Southern Mindanao will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms in Mimaropa, Western Visayas and Mindanao, Pagasa’s morning bulletin said.

Pura said the ITCZ has nothing to do with the start of rainy season, however.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening, Pagasa said.
