THE University of the Visayas-powered Lancers will try to raise Cebu’s banner up high as they represent the city in the Visayas Regional Finals of the Coca Cola PBA Youngstars Basketball Tournament today at the Capitol Parish Gym along Escario Street, Cebu City.
The Lancers aim to defend the title that they won last year, which enabled them to make it to the national finals in Manila. There, they earned the respect of the country’s best squads after finishing in second place, losing to eventual champions, the San Beda Red Cubs-manned Taytay.
Cebu will be going up against the champions from Iloilo and Bacolod—Ateneo de Iloilo and West Negros University, respectively. The Lancers take on WNU in the first game today at 9 a.m. The Bacolod representatives also take on Ateneo de Iloilo in the afternoon at 3 p.m.
The Lancers cap off their stint with a game against AdI tomorrow at 8 a.m. The top team after the single round-robin gets to earn a spot in the national finals, which will be held in Manila on May 19 to 26. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
