Town police chief, 5 others sacked

Six policemen from Dumanjug town, southern Cebu were relieved from their posts.

Chief Supt. Marcelo Garbo, chief of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said the six policemen were involved in partisan politics and other alleged irregularities.

“They were protecting illegal drug and gambling activities. Matagal na yang report na involved sila,” said Garbo.

Relieved were the town’s police chief Insp. Robert Lucernas, SPO3 Felipe Vibar, SPO2 John Eric Cordovez, SPO2 Joel Sarmiento, PO2 Rafael Baritua and PO1 Danny Canero.

In a phone interview, Lucernas said he had no idea why he was relieved and insisted that was not supporting any politicians in the town.

Garbo said the relief of the six police officers should serve as a warning to other personnel of the Philippine National Police.
