Training opportunity for CNC machinists

COMPUTER Numerical Control (CNC) machinists is a new boom in the job market.

In the Philippines, only few were trained and most of these professionals left the country for good.

In order to address this, the Metals Industry and Research Development Center of the Department of Science and Technology is implementing a project entitled, “Human resource intervention for sustainable growth and competitiveness of the M & E sector: Development and implementation of appropriate training curriculum design for CNC machine tool programming and operations.”

The project is targeting 800 participants nationwide.

To qualify, the participant must be either a VocTech graduate or second year college student, with skills in conventional machining (turning or milling) and basic computer operation.

The 52-day training program is segmented into three parts: part 1 – basic and common competencies; part 2 – core competency; and part 3 – industry immersion.

For unemployed participants, the training is free. They will also be given a P300 daily allowance to defray their cost of living while attending the training. For employed participants, the training fee is P10,000.
