MMDA imposes two-way traffic scheme along Domestic Road Friday

MANILA, Philippines – A two-way traffic scheme will be imposed along the Domestic Road in Pasay City starting Friday in anticipation of possible heavy traffic that may be caused by the impending construction of the EDSA-Taft flyover, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority official said Thursday.

Under the scheme, MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said two lanes will be for vehicles going to Roxas Boulevard, while the other two lanes will be for vehicles going to Andrews Avenue.

“The construction of the EDSA-Taft flyover in August would affect the cities of Parañaque and Pasay, and measures are now being undertaken by MMDA to decongest these areas even before the actual construction begins,” Tolentino said.

MMDA Traffic Engineering Center Director Neomie Recio said traffic signals are already in place to control the intersections in affected roads, adding that signs have been put up telling motorists of the new traffic scheme.

“I am urging the concerned local government units, particularly the village officials, to remove all illegally parked vehicles and other forms of obstruction along Domestic Road to facilitate a smooth flow of vehicular traffic,” Tolentino said.

Furthermore, Tolentino said an assessment of the new traffic scheme will be conducted to evaluate its effectiveness in improving the traffic situation along the Domestic Road.

The EDSA-Taft flyover will start in front of the Heritage Hotel and end near the Malibay Bridge.  Its construction is expected to be completed in 15 months.
