Grenade thrown at house of UNA mayoralty bet in Lanao Sur
MANILA, Philippines—A grenade was hurled at a house in Manila owned by a candidate running for mayor in Mindanao before dawn Thursday, police said, but added that no one was hurt.
In a report to Senior Superintendent Robert Po, Manila Police District officer-in-charge, the explosive device was thrown at the house of businessman Baswali Alawiya in Alabastro Street, San Andres Bukid around 4 a.m.
Baswali, who is in Mindanao for his campaign, is a candidate for mayor in Lanao del Sur under the United Nationalist Alliance.
Initial investigation showed that a still unidentified man went near the house of Baswali and threw the grenade.
A follow-up investigation has been launched for the possible identification and arrest of the suspect.
