MANILA, Philippines—Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that review of the source code will begin Thursday.
During the oral argument, he said even petitioner Richard Gordon is protected because the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of which Gordon belongs to, is accredited to review the source code.
“The petitioner [Gordon] is properly protected. UNA is one of the parties allowed to review the source code. Senator Gordon can join his friends in UNA,” Brillantes said.
Source code is the programing software of all the computerized voting machines that will undertake the counting, canvassing and transmission of votes on the day of the election.
Brillantes said source code review by a political party is a good thing but is not mandatory.
“It is good for purposes of credibility,” Brillantes said.
He pointed that what is mandatory is the source code review by an independent certifier.
