MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) is prepared for any eventuality on Election Day, including power failure, a spokesman said Wednesday.

“On the side of the PNP, we do not see any problem,” said Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. after a power outage hit parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila on the same day as five power plants broke down caused by a “tripping” in their transmission lines.

Under the PNP’s “Oplan Last Two Weeks”, Interior Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas said security in vital installations and communication facilities would be strengthened to ensure the uninterrupted transmission of results during the automated counting of returns shortly after the national and local elections on May 13.

Cerbo also said that security operations were being carried out constantly to prevent a sabotage by rebel groups.

“So wala kaming nakikta na problema [So we really don’t see any problem],” Cerbo said.
