MANILA, Philippines—Philippine National Police chief, Director General Alan Purisima, said they will still have to coordinate with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) regarding the implementation of the “money ban,” saying that the PNP may suffer repercussions from its enforcement.

Purisima said he has yet to clarify with the elections commission about the basis of its Resolution 9688, which bans cash withdrawals from banks of more than P100,000 per day.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said the money ban from Wednesday to Monday will help curb vote buying.

“Is it a crime?…kasi ’pag inaresto mo baka susunod yung pulis naman ang may kaso, ’di ba? Kasi illegal arrest kung wala kami mai-file na kaso,” Purisima said.

Instead of the money ban, Purisima said the government should do more in educating the people to be responsible voters.
