With recent raids of cybersex dens in Cordova town, a Mandaue City barangay is requiring Internet cafes including those piso-piso Internet cafes to register their business in the barangay.
Barangay captain Ernie Manatad of barangay Subangdaku in Mandaue City said they required these businesses to register so that they could be monitored if they were engaging in illegal activities such as cybersex operations.
Since May, Manatad said, 42 Internet cafe operators in the barangay had registered their business.
He however admitted difficulty in regulating private Internet users since they couldn’t force them to register their computers or laptops with Internet connections.
But he assured that barangay tanods were closely monitoring these Internet cafes to prevent them from allowing minors to use their computers during school hours.
Meanwhile, Mandaue City police were monitoring and conducting an information drive against cybersex operators in the city.
Mandaue City Police Chief Noel Gillamac said yesterday they had been closely monitoring Internet cafes in the city and none were involved in cybersex operations.
Gillamac said Police Community Relations headed by Insp. Gil Roco was conducting an information campaign or pulong pulong in communities in the city about drugs and cybersex. With a report from Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
